Is Infinera the Same Company as Coriant Infinera?
Yes and no. Coriant merged into Infinera in 2018, so the combined company operates under the Infinera name. But "Coriant Infinera" still shows up all over network inventories and spares lists because the teams that installed those systems remember the original branding.
This matters more than you'd think. Legacy Coriant platforms—the 7100, 7300, and Packet Optical lines—use different part numbering and occasionally different firmware expectations than Infinera-native systems. A "compatible" optic that works on an Infinera DTN line card isn't automatically the right pick for a Coriant-era shelf.

Is "Infinity Pro" an Official Infinera Product?

Bronze vs Silver Transceivers: What's Actually Different?
Vendors grade compatible optics in tiers, and the naming gets used loosely. Here's what "bronze vs silver" usually means when you compare units:
Bronze: Meets the datasheet specs. Standard warranty. Standard RMA turnaround—often 10 to 15 business days including shipping. It's the lowest price point, and it's fine for links where you have redundancy and spares on hand.
Silver: Adds extended testing (temperature cycling and burn-in are the common ones), better warranty terms, and faster RMA service. For a revenue-bearing link without full redundancy, the extra cost tends to be worth it.
Is bronze ever the right call? Sure. But make it a deliberate decision, not a default. I had a client run silver-tier on their primary links and bronze on protection paths. The savings were meaningful at that quantity—and on the live paths, the extra testing paid for itself the first time a vendor flagged a marginal unit before it shipped.
My bias, for what it's worth: prevention over cure. The worst rush orders I've handled always trace back to saving $200 on a part and losing $2,000 in expedite fees, overtime, and executive explanations.
How Fast Can I Actually Get an Infinera-Compatible Transceiver?

- Vendor install documentation. Ask for proof the vendor has deployed that exact part on a similar system. If they can't provide it, that's a signal.
This checklist exists because of a specific mistake. In 2024, we sold a QSFP28-CWDM4 for a client's Infinera Groove system without double-checking the firmware revision against their line card. - Whether it's advance replacement (they ship before you return) or send-first-then-fix.
- Whether RMA shipping is covered in both directions.
- Whether the replacement unit is new or refurbished—nothing wrong with either, but the distinction should be explicit.
One regret I'll share: our company lost a $60,000 bid in 2022 because we refused to confirm compatibility for a niche tunable XFP variant without first testing it.
